PayPal to launch fintech scholarship with SMU
Online payments system giant PayPal has this week announced its intention to partner with Singapore Management University to provide a fintech scholarship worth SD$180,000.
Two undergraduates at Singapore Management University will receive fintech scholarships as part of a partnership arrangement with PayPal, and under the University’s agenda for a tech-focused curriculum with increasing focus on financial technology and Cybersecurity courses.
PayPal Singapore Development Centre general manager, Anupam Pahuja, said the scholarship would be viewed as a pathway to a career in tech innovation.
“PayPal looks forward to playing its part in nurturing Singapore’s next generation of fintech talent,” he said.
“The only way disruptive innovation can be brought to life is by identifying and growing young talent.”
The scholarships are expected to be awarded in the first half of the year with applications to commence in February.
Singapore Management University School of Information Systems, Professor Pang Hwee Hwa, said the partnership would also see Bachelor of Science students work directly with PayPal.
“The scholarship will support students to specialise in the financial technology, Cybersecurity or business analytics tracks in our BSc-Information Systems program,” he said.
“Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in creating fintech solutions with our research centres, as well as through interning with PayPal.”
