Stephen Halmarick is the Head of Economic and Market Research for Colonial First State Global Asset Management (‘CFSGAM’) – the wealth management arm of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), the largest financial services company in Australia.
Stephen works closely with all the Investment Management teams, across a broad range of asset classes, to ensure a strong understanding of macroeconomic factors and their impact on markets.
Stephen is also the key spokesperson to clients and media on macroeconomic themes and broader financial market issues.
Stephen and his team produce a number of economic publications. These include short reports on economic and market developments, presentation packs, longer thought pieces on key structural issues and in-depth reports on key countries and regions of the global economy.
Stephen has 30 years’ experience as a financial markets economist and is widely regarded as one of the best economic communicators and presenters in Australia.
Prior to joining CFSGAM in March 2009, Stephen worked for companies such as Westpac, SBC Australia, the Nomura Research Institute and from 1994-2009 the Salomon Smith Barney Citibank group, where he held the title of Managing Director and Co-Head of Economic and Market Analysis.
Stephen holds a degree in Economics from Macquarie University, a graduate diploma from the Securities Institute of Australia and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
