No matter the nature of the census—population, economic or agricultural—the results of each are an integral part of the Indonesian president’s speech to the House of Representatives on Indonesian Independence Day. This fact establishes a hard and fast deadline for completion of each census. There can be no extensions. All activities involved in the census—preparation, execution, analysis and reporting of findings—are to be completed within six months.

This year, for the first time in history, the results were announced on the same day as the census itself.
