AMP tech chief jumps ship to Medibank

Medibank has poached AMP’s chief technology officer Felicia Trewin to lead its data and technology function.

As the health insurer’s permanently appointed group lead – data & technology, Trewin will have a dedicated focus on technology, security, data management and core platforms, Medibank said.

The new role was unveiled in July this year as part of a major change to Medibank’s executive leadership structure, effectively replacing the group executive of technology and operations role previously held by John Goodall.

Trewin steps in for Kylie Williamson, who has served as Medibank’s interim tech chief since Goodall’s departure in late March.

Welcoming Medibank’s latest senior tech recruit, chief executive David Koczkar said Trewin brings “with her significant experience in technology, large program delivery, security and transformation in financial services”.

Trewin was most recently chief technology officer (CTO) at AMP, joining the business in March 2022.

Prior to AMP, Trewin was group executive of technology and chief information officer at AustralianSuper, leading and transforing the group’s technology services function.

Notching up nearly 25 years in technology roles, Trewin also served as ANZ’s group head of emerging technology labs, and has also held roles at Microsoft, Deloitte, and Accenture.

Trewin will commence at Medibank from early 2024, with Williamson continuing to act in the role until that time.

AMP said Trewin would serve during this time in a transition period as it seeks a replacement, continuing to support the group’s technology strategy.

AMP chief executive Alexis George recognised the outgoing tech chief’s “pivotal role in developing the AMP technology strategy and building a strong leadership team to deliver on that strategy.

“We wish her all the best for the future,” George said.

She added: “We have the right people and plan in place as we continue to transform our technology to meet the needs of a simplified, agile and focused AMP.”

AMP said it will conduct an executive search for a replacement for Trewin, “with a focus on leveraging the strong talent pipeline within the group”.
