FS-ISAC releases Cyber Fundamentals checklist

Cyber hygiene FS-ISAC

Despite a surge in the number of Australian businesses falling victim to cybercrime, with the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASCS) reporting a 23 per cent increase in incidents last financial year, many are still failing to implement basic cyber hygiene practices.

Global financial sector cyber intelligence group, the FS-ISAC, has sought to strengthen this baseline, releasing a new 55-point checklist to help organisation improve their cybersecurity hygiene.

The guidance, which is broken down into 15 themes with separate recommendations and targeting organisations at all levels of cyber maturity, covers essential cybersecurity practices such as encrypting data at rest and in transit, implementing best practices for password management, and ensuring secure configuration management.

“By following these recommendations, organisations can significantly enhance their cybersecurity posture and ensure that employees at all levels understand that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility – and staying cyber resilient in an evolving threat landscape must begin with the basics,” the FS-ISAC wrote.

“This proactive, ground-up approach not only helps protect individual organisations but also contributes to the overall security and resilience of the financial system and the broader economy.”
