The NSW-government led Financial Services Knowledge Hub has announced a partnership with Afiniation this morning in a bid to drive collaboration across the financial services sector.

Jillian Upton, co-founder of Afiniation, said the partnership was the first step for the group as it looks toward engaging the Hub in co-hosting a problem solving workshop for “corporates and startups” in June this year.

Afiniation – who were founded with the mandate of forming “a proper network to link all forces in the local fintech space together” – will now add The Committee for Sydney’s deputy CEO and Financial Services Knowledge Hub coordinator, Johanna Pitman, to its selection committee.

Pitman joins H2 Ventures’ Ben Heap, BT Financial Group’s Annick Donat, Avoka’s Howard Treisman, The Fold Legal’s Claire Wivell Plater, and NWR Communications’ Warrick Lace in recognition of the new alliance.

As part of the agreement, the committee will elect the 30 presenters at the next Fintech Showcase event.

Afiniation held its flagship Fintech Showcase event in Sydney in September last year, highlighting 32 of the top fintech innovators across Australia and New Zealand.

The Showcase series aims to facilitate greater engagement between fintech entrepreneurs and corporations such as banks and incumbent financial institutions.

“Our Showcase events are about meeting entrepreneurs that not only have innovative ideas, but also tangible products and services that enable their innovations to literally change the way we do business,” Upton said.

“[We] share the goal of supporting the growth of fintech through improving networks and bringing all voices from across the financial services sector together,” Pitman added.
