Standard Chartered Bank and the National University of Singapore have signed a memorandum of understanding for the co-development of a study module around digital transformation.

Students of the National University of Singapore will be able to study a specially co-designed module on digital innovation and transformation, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the university and Standard Chartered Bank.

Under the terms of the MoU, Standard Chartered would provide internship opportunities to NUS students enrolled in the Information Systems and Business Analytics degree programmes. The new digital transformation unit would be launched in August for the 2017/2018 academic year and co-delivered by Standard Chartered’s global head, digital transformation (retail, private banking and wealth), adjunct Professor Foong Sew Bun.

“Standard Chartered is delighted to partner with NUS Computing to offer a programme which will help build a pipeline of talent as well as prepare the next generation of technology leaders for a career in financial services,” Foong said.

NUS School of Computing deputy head of programmes, Associate Professor Tan Chuan Hoo said the collaboration would assist IT professionals to facilitate better digital transformations of Singaporean businesses.

“Companies are facing the need to transform their IT services and systems to meet the needs of the future economy,” he said.

“It is important that we update our curriculum to support these needs – in this case, we are focusing on developing digital transformation skills.”
