July saw a number of senior appointments across the public sector, with noteworthy additions to SA’s Department of Innovation and Skills and Victoria’s ICT provider Cenitex.


Ronan O’Connor, Chief Information Officer of the Digital Health Agency has announced his resignation. O’Connor will depart from the Agency on 16 October after serving more than three years as the DHA’s tech chief.

Cenitex, IT provider to the Victorian Government, has appointed Carsten Boeving as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Boeving’s appointment follows the departure of former Cenitex CISO James Fell earlier this year.

The South Australian Government has appointed Adam Reid as the new Chief Executive of the Department for Innovation and Skills. SA Premier Steven Marshall said Reid, who has served as acting CEO since April, has “[played] an integral role in the establishment of the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre”.

The Federal Government has officially appointed Scott Gregson as the ACCC’s Chief Operating Officer. Gregson had been acting in the role since the retirement of Rayne de Gruchy in April. He most recently served as Executive General Manager of the ACCC’s Merger and Authorisation Review Division.

The CSIRO has filled two key leadership positions this month: Dr Marita Niemelae has been appointed as Director of Energy and Gail Fulton has been appointed Director of Services. Both appointments were made internally.

The Federal Government has appointed Grant Donaldson as acting head of Australia’s Independent National Security Legislation Monitor following the departure of James Renwick. Donaldson will be appointed for an initial period of three months.

The Queensland Government has appointed Anthony Reilly as the state’s next chief Ombudsman. Reilly has held a number of leadership roles across Queensland Government, including in Queensland Health, the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Public Safety Business Agency.

The NSW Government has appointed Simon Hickey as Chief Executive of Western Sydney Airport, a five-year term.

LaunchVic, Victoria’s start-up incubator agency, has appointed Leigh Jasper as Chair of its Board. Jasper is joined by Ilona Charles, Teresa Engelhard and Aneetha de Silva as new appointees.

The Federal Government announced Justin Punch as the new Chair of the Board of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
