The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has warned NSW agencies of an email scam targeting government suppliers.

The spoof emails, which imitate the NSW Government, appear to invite suppliers to offer a quote for goods and services or provide a fake purchase order for the goods/services.

NSW Treasury was alerted to the scam by the ACSC.

“The scammers register realistic looking NSW Government websites and email addresses and use these to communicate with suppliers. The emails include the contact details of the Chief Procurement Officer, Chief Information Officer and Secretary,” the NSW Treasury said in a statement.

Purchase orders and emails appear to have been sent from procurement@xxx-nsw-xxx.org. However, other spoof addresses may also be in use.

The Treasury has warned businesses across NSW to be on the lookout for the scam emails.
