January’s end and early February saw a number of high-profile appointments and departures across the financial services sector, with noteworthy additions to IAG, HSBC, and the ACCC.
IAG has appointed Julie Batch to the position of Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, leading the company’s newly created Strategy & Innovation division. The insurance group has also appointed Neil Morgan to the position of Group Executive Technology & Digital.
HSBC has appointed Kaber Mclean to the position of Chief Executive, Australia. Noel McNamara, who served as acting CEO from June 2019, has been appointed HSBC Australia’s Chief Risk Officer.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has appointed Paul Franklin as head of the watchdog’s Consumer Data Rights division. Franklin most recently served as Director for the Australian Payments Network (AusPayNet) and General Manager of Payments for NAB.
MLC Life has appointed Sean McCormack, currently Chief of Group and Retail Partners, as interim Chief Executive and Managing Director following the departure of David Hackett. Hackett served three years at the helm of MLC Life and was last year awarded CEO Magazine’s top gong as CEO of the Year.
BDCU Alliance Bank has appointed Tanya Schiller to the position of Chief Executive. Schiller formerly served as deputy CEO at BDCU, and has succeeded Jan Edwards, who announced her retirement at the end of 2019.
AMP has appointed James Georgeson to the position of Chief Financial Officer, effective 3 February 2020. Georgeson had served as acting CFO following the departure of Gordon Lefevre last May.
FinClear, a wealth management tech provider, has appointed Lisa Pham to the position of Technology Delivery Manager.
Spaceship, an investment services and superannuation provider, has announced three executive-level appointments: Andrew Malak has been appointed Chief Product Officer – Malak most recently served as head of Digital Sales Transformation at Westpac; Peter McHale has been appointed Chief Operating Officer; and Olly Emery has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer.
Westpac has appointed John McFarlane as its next Chair and Non-Executive Director, and will succeed Lindsay Maxsted who announced he will depart in April this year.
NAB has appointed Simon McKeon AO as Director to its Board, effective 3 February 2020. McKeon formerly served as AMP Chair.
IRESS has appointed both Michael Dwyer and Trudy Vonhoff to its Board as Non-Executive Directors.
ING Australia has appointed Dr John Laker as its next Chair. Laker previously served as Chair of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) for more than 11 years, leaving the role in 2014.
IAG has announced Group Executive David Harrington will resign from his position at the end of March 2020 following eight years at the insurance group.
