October saw a number of high-profile appointments and departures across the financial services sector, with noteworthy additions to CBA, Bankwest and industry watchdog APRA.
 

Australia

The Commonwealth Bank (CBA) has appointed Angela MacMillan to the position of Group Customer Advocate.

Bank of Queensland (BOQ) has appointed Ewen Stafford to the position of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. BOQ also announced the retirement Non-Executive Director, Richard Haire.

Bankwest has appointed Sinead Taylor to the position of Managing Director, following Rowan Munchenberg’s resignation. Taylor becomes the first female to lead the organisation.

MLC Life Insurance has appointed Andrea Forbes to the position of Executive Lead – Relationship Management, Group Insurance.

AMP has appointed Alex Wade (currently Chief Executive of Australian Wealth Management) to lead the newly established AMP Australia business following the merger of financial services giant’s banking and wealth arms. Rod Finch (currently Managing Director, Wealth Products and Platforms) has been appointed Managing Director of AMP Bank, replacing Sally Bruce, who steps down from the role effective 1 November 2019.

APRA (The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) has announced the appointment of several new executives as part of an organisational restructure:

  • Sean Carmody has been appointed to the position of Executive Director, Cross-Industry Insights & Data;
  • Brandon Khoo has been appointed Executive Director, Insurance;
  • Therese McCarthy Hockey has been appointed Executive Director, Banking;
  • Suzanne Smith has been appointed Executive Director, Superannuation; and
  • Steve Matthews has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Enterprise Services.

Heidi Richards has also been appointed as acting Executive Director, Policy & Advice pending a permanent appointment to the role; Angela Thurstans will also take on the role of Risk Specialist, Governance.

Suncorp has announced Group General Counsel Belinda Speirs will take on the role of Company Secretariat, bringing together Legal, Corporate and Board Governance under one team. Banking & Wealth Chief Executive David Carter has also announced his departure from Suncorp, taking on a new position as Group Chief Executive at RACQ.

BNP Paribas has appointed Karine Delvallée to the position of Head of Territory for Australia and New Zealand and General Manager of BNP Paribas Australia Branch.

AustralianSuper has appointed Paul Schroder to the position of Chief Risk Officer; Peter Curtis has also been announced as Group Executive, Finance and Operations. The super fund has also appointed former director at CARE Super Claire Keating to its board.

Sunsuper has announced the appointment of Bernard Reilly to the position of Chief Executive.

UniSuper has appointed Kevin Roadnight as its first Chief Operating Officer.

Colonial First State has appointed Todd Stevenson to the position of Chief Member Outcomes Officer.

ANZ has appointed Mark Fitzgerald to the position of President Director and Country Head, PT Bank ANZ Indonesia.

MLC Life Insurance has appointed Emily Wu to the position of Head of New Fund Partnerships.

Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Suncorp Insurance Chief Executive Gary Dransfield to the position of President and Chairman of the Board. His two-year term will begin in January 2020.

National Australia Bank (NAB) has appointed Kathryn Fagg as a non-executive director to the NAB Board.

First State Super has appointed Peter Chun to the position of Group Executive Member Growth.

The Financial Services Council (FSC) has appointed Jen Driscoll, Chief Executive Officer for AllianceBernstein (AB) in Australia, as a Director to the FSC Board.

Cashwerkz has announced Chief Executive Hector Ortiz will step into the role of head of sales; the fintech and investment platform provider has also appointed Craig Swanger to its board.

BNK Banking Corporation has appointed Jon Sutton as Deputy Chairman. Sutton formerly served as Chief Executive for the Bank of Queensland.

The Police Bank announced the resignation of its Chief Executive Tony Taylor. Andrew Rasby will serve as acting Chief Executive until a successor is announced.

New Zealand

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has announced the appointment of Sarah Vrede to the position of Director of Capital Markets; the FMA has also appointed Clare Bolingford to the newly created position of Director of Banking and Insurance.

Kiwibank has appointed Tony Reid to the position of Head of Corporate Affairs, responsible for government relations, internal and external communications.
