Movers & Shakers, Financial Services | June – July, 2020

June saw a number of high-profile appointments and departures across the financial services sector, with noteworthy additions to Suncorp, NAB and MLC Life.

Appointments

Suncorp has appointed Adam Bennett to the position of Chief Information Officer. Bennett formerly served as Chief Information Officer for CBA’s Retail and Business Banking divisions and Group Executive Business and Private Banking for five years until early 2020.

National Australia Bank has appointed Andrew Irvine to the position of Group Executive Business and Private Banking. Irvine previously led the Business Banking division of Canada’s Bank of Montreal.

MLC Life Insurance has appointed Rodney Cook to the position of Chief Executive and Managing Director. The appointment comes six months after the departure of erstwhile CEO David Hackett. Cook will replace Sean McCormack, who has been acting in the role since Hackett’s departure.

MLC Life has also appointed Jane Murray to the position of Chief People Officer, overseeing the insurer’s performance culture and management of human resources.

AustralianSuper has appointed Sarah Adams to the position of Group Executive, Strategy, Brand and Reputation.

People’s Choice Credit Union has appointed Maria-Ann Camilleri to the position of Chief Member Officer and Samantha Bradley to the position of Chief People & Culture Officer. Both will assume their new appointments in mid-August. Camilleri formerly served as Westpac’s National Head of Virtual Banking Strategy & Customer Care.

HESTA has appointed Feroz Jordan as General Manager for Investment Data and Systems. Jordan will be tasked with developing systems and frameworks to deliver data to HESTA’s internal investment team.

Financial Executive Women (FEW), a career advocacy program for women in financial services, has appointed Alex Tullio to the position of Chief Executive. The move follows the announcement that Judith Beck will step down from the CEO role and take on a new position as Chair on FEW’s Advisory Board.

Departures

MLC Life has also announced the departure of Louise Portelli, Chief Customer Experience Officer, following a strategic realignment at the company. Portelli served just over a year in the role.

The Commonwealth Bank has confirmed the departure of Marianne Perkovic, Executive General Manager Commonwealth Private, following the shift of the bank’s private banking division to fall under retail services division. It was previously under CBA’s business banking unit.

Board

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Veronique Ingram as Independent Chair of the General Insurance Code Governance Committee (CGC). The independent committee oversees performance of subscribers against the General Insurance Code of Practice. The three-year appointment commences 1 July 2020. Ingram formerly served as Chief Executive and Inspector-General in Bankruptcy at the Australian Financial Security Authority.

CBA has appointed Simon Moutter to its Board. Moutter formerly served as Spark NZ Chief Executive and Managing Director.

The National Stock Exchange of Australia has appointed Kelly Humphreys as a Non-Executive Director to its Board.

ME Bank has announced the departure of Non-Executive Director Christine Christian. ME cited a potential conflict of interest.

New Zealand

ANZ Bank New Zealand has formally appointed Stuart McKinnon to the position of Managing Director, Institutional. McKinnon had been acting in the role since mid-March, replacing Paul Goodwin who has moved to the role of United States Country Head for ANZ.

Fidelity Life has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Nadine Tereora, who served more than three years with the business.
