Francisco Espejo-Gil has a degree in Geography, is a certified Meteorologist, and has two Master’s Degrees, one in Advanced Studies in Physical Geography and another one in Insurance Business Administration.
Since 2018 he has been the Assistant Director of Research and International Relations of Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros (CCS). In this role, he is in charge of the coordination of the inward and outward information fluxes concerning CCS and its activities, and also of the application of that knowledge to the strategic planning of this state-owned enterprise. Therefore, he coordinates the relationship of CCS with the different Spanish and European agencies concerned with the management of the risks covered, as well as with the Academia. His unit is also in charge of CCS’s publications and communication through its website and social media, as well as the international relations of the company, attending several fora such as OECD, the European Commission, EIOPA, Insurance Europe and other ones internal to the insurance industry.
In particular, Francisco is member of the OECD High Level Advisory Board on the Financial Management of Catastrophic Risks; of the EIOPA Technical Expert Network on Catastrophe Risks; of Insurance Europe’s Sustainability Working Group, and of the Spanish Expert Advisory Panel on Climate Change Driven Risks and Impacts.
Francisco started his professional career in 1993 in the Spanish National Weather Service (AEMET) as a weather forecast specialist. He dealt later with climate research, mountain meteorology and snow science and, in 2010 he moved to the International Relations Area of AEMET, where he coordinated the relation of Spain with World Meteorological Organization, until his joining CCS in mid-2015 as senior expert in natural hazards.
