Peter is the First Assistant Secretary for Cyber and Technology Security Policy at the
Department of Home Affairs.
Peter leads the development and coordination of national cyber security policy, security
measures for critical and emerging technologies and the Commonwealth’s protective
security agenda, including Commonwealth cyber security uplift. In this role, Peter oversees
the implementation of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy and supports a
number of key international cyber engagements including through the Quad and
International Counter Ransomware Taskforce.
Prior to this role, Peter was an executive director at CyberCX, Australia’s largest cyber
security professional services firm. Peter led the company’s public policy, corporate affairs
and crisis communications functions.
From 2015 – 2018 Peter was a senior adviser to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull where
he led key areas of Prime Minister’s foreign affairs and national security agenda including
cyber security, counter-terrorism, immigration and international trade. He led the Prime
Minister’s policy development, political strategy, and communications and in these areas
and worked with the Australian Government’s senior leadership, national security agencies
and other relevant stakeholders to successfully implement the Government’s agenda.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (International Relations
and History) from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the
University of Oxford.
