Hamish has worked in the Government Communications Security Bureau since 2004, initially in the Intelligence Directorate and subsequently in the Information Assurance and Cyber Security Directorate (IACD).
The IACD works with government and private sector organisations vital to New Zealand’s wellbeing to help keep their information systems and communications secure. The directorate includes the National Cyber Security Centre.
Prior to being appointed Assistant Director Cyber Security, Hamish managed the NCSC’s Cyber Threat Response Unit – responsible for responding to cyber attacks, assisting victims in mitigating the damage caused and for identifying those responsible.
He has been closely involved in the delivery of GCSB’s CORTEX capabilities, providing advanced cyber security protection to New Zealand’s critical national infrastructure.
He is responsible for three business units within the NCSC and for overseeing the day-to-day operations and planning for the centre.
