Before joining the Department of Premier and Cabinet, William Murphy was the Deputy Secretary at the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation. His focus has been to drive the NSW government’s transformation to digital government. This includes a better use of public sector data, innovation and whole-of-sector reform in technology, information management, procurement and shared services. William is leading innovation in the way government operates and delivers services, working in collaboration with agencies and the market to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government through customer centric service design.
He has also held the position of Executive Director, Strategic Policy. In this role, he was instrumental in designing and delivering the New South Wales Government ICT Strategy and leading the implementation of the government’s procurement reform agenda. He has held various policy and strategy positions in the Commonwealth and NSW State Governments.
