Rochelle Thorne joined the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission in January 2018 as the Chief Information Officer. In this role she is responsible for providing and maintaining the agency’s national ICT capabilities and services to support policing and law enforcement.

Before taking on this role, Rochelle worked in Australian Government ICT for over 30 years in several agencies and Departments, specifically Centrelink, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Department of Human Services and the Department of Defence.  Rochelle’s work experience at the Senior Executive Level  has spanned a range of ICT disciplines including Applications Development, Program Management Office,  Project Delivery, Strategy and Architecture, Infrastructure Management (including Data Centres), Network Communications, ICT Security, and ICT Governance.

Some career highlights have included shared responsibility for Centrelink’s first Online Claim, Centrelink’s first e-Service, Centrelink’s Pharmaceutical Concession Validation system,  Basics Card, remediated eHealth capability at Medicare in 2013 and the 2011 Household Census applications (including the eCensus).  While working in Operations at the Department of Defence, Rochelle also contributed to the delivery of large scale infrastructure transformation projects.  Rochelle has managed large budgets of several hundreds of millions and large commercial contracts delivering key ICT operational capability.  Rochelle has worked closely with the ICT Industry in Canberra while managing over 1000 staff.

Rochelle graduated from the University of New England (UNE) in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science and Graduate Diploma of Education. She has also completed a Graduate Diploma of Computing Studies at the University of Canberra, Diploma of Project Management at UNE and a Graduate Diploma of Science (IT Enterprise Architecture) through the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy.
