Movers and Shakers:  FST Media’s monthly wrap of the personnel changes in financial services across Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific.

Australia and New Zealand

Appointments

February saw a number of high-profile appointments across financial services in Australia and New Zealand, with noteworthy additions to ANZ, IRESS and Rabobank.

Maile Carnegie has been announced as ANZ’s group executive of digital banking and will report to the bank’s chief executive officer, Shayne Elliott. Maile joins ANZ from Google where she has been managing director of Australia and New Zealand since 2013.

Aaron Knowles has been appointed to the newly-created role of group executive of product for IRESS. Knowles will be responsible for all product functions across IRESS and will report to IRESS chief executive, Andrew Walsh. Knowles is joined by Jacqui Lennon who has been appointed to the newly-created role of product executive, wealth management for IRESS.

Els Kamphof has been announced as Rabobank Australia and New Zealand’s group executive for wholesale banking. Kamphof will lead a strengthened corporate banking operation for Rabobank in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, Rabobank has also appointed Karin Van Selm to the role of head of loan products group, overseeing the bank’s wholesale client coverage, while Ross Dawson has been appointed as executive director of the bank’s loan products group, responsible for managing wholesale clients in Victoria.

Sue Houghton has been ushered in as the new general manager of insurance for BT Financial Group to replace the outgoing David Lees, who moved to Westpac last year.

Andrew Polson has been appointed as My State’s general manager of wealth management. He will lead MyState’s wealth management business and brings 20 years’ financial services experience to the company.

Jan Harris has been appointed as a non-executive director for Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. Previously, Harris has held senior roles in the Department of the Treasury and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, including most recently as Deputy Secretary at the Treasury.

Lanie Conquest has been appointed as Senior Institutional Account Manager for Rubik Financial and will report to Marc Hraiki, group executive of sales and relationship management for Rubik.

Diana Callebaut has joined Cbus’ investment strategy team in the newly created role of manager of infrastructure.

Mark Oliver has been ushered in as the general manager of distribution for IOOF. Oliver’s appointment follows the creation of a new wealth management division for IOOF in December last year and the promotion of Renato Mota to group general manager, wealth management.

Asia Pacific

Appointments

The last month saw a number of high-profile appointments across financial services in Asia Pacific, with noteworthy additions to Standard Chartered Bank and Manulife.

James Dolphin has been appointed as chief information officer of retail banking for Standard Chartered Bank. Dolphin will report directly to the group CIO, Dr. Michael Gorriz, and be based in Singapore. He joins Standard Chartered from Capital One where he has been CIO, of retail and direct banking since 2012. In addition, Katarina Rosboch has been appointed as global head of securities services for information technology and operations for the bank.

Matt Whittingham has been appointed as Manulife’s chief digital officer for its Asia division. Based in Singapore, Whittingham will be responsible for delivering the company’s digital strategy across 12 markets in the region. Joining him is Francesco Lagutaine, who has been appointed as chief marketing and experience design officer for Asia. Meanwhile, Jason Dehni has been promoted to the role of chief distribution officer for the region. Manulife said the appointments reflect the company’s growing customer-centric focus, and positions the firm to better capture growth opportunities across current and emerging distribution channels.

Shirley Tang has been appointed as managing director and Asia team head for RBC Wealth Management. Based in Hong Kong, Tang will now report to Ignatius KK Chong, who is RBC’s market head for Greater China.

Liu Shiyu has been announced as the newly appointed chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission. Liu takes over from the departing Xiao Gang and is expected to take necessary steps to help boost investor confidence.

Matthew Westerman has been appointed to HSBC as co-head of global banking and will work alongside Robin Phillips, the firm’s other co-head of global banking,. Westerman has been at Goldman Sachs for 16 years.

Peter Flavel has been named as chief executive officer of private banking for the Royal Bank of Scotland. Previously, Flavel served as the head of Asia wealth management at JP Morgan Chase and Co.
