Board Appointments

◼️ Bendigo and Adelaide Bank has appointed Daryl Johnson to its board as a Non-Executive Director, effective from September 30.

Johnson boasts more than 40 years in banking and finance roles across Australia, Asia and New Zealand.

His most recent executive role was as CEO of Rabobank New Zealand, departing in 2017 after a year at the rural lender. He also previously held a number of executive roles at NAB, including as CEO of Asia, Executive General Manager of NAB Business, and General Manager of Corporate Banking.

Johnson was previously a Non-Executive Director of Beyond Bank Australia, Cuscal and CG Spectrum Institute and an advisory committee member to Agrifunder, a specialist provider of working capital funding to the agricultural sector.

Commenting on the bank’s newest board appointee, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Chair Vicki Carter recognised the Johnson’s “extensive banking and finance experience in Australasia and deep understanding of business and agribusiness”.

“His expertise in the areas of strategy development and implementation, customer experience, and financial performance will further support the Bank’s growth agenda,” Carter said.

◼️ Teachers Mutual Bank (TMB) has appointed Marianne Perkovic as Non-Executive Director, effective from 18 September 2024.

Perkovic’s career in financial services and consulting roles spans more than three decades.

She currently serves as Chair of Eticore, a corporate trustee, as well as The Australian Fashion Council, and sits on the boards of Insignia Financial Group Investment & Superannuation Trustee Boards, IReal Asset Management Essential Services Property Fund, and Orygen Youth Mental Health Foundation.

Maree O’Halloran, TMB Board Chair said she was “delighted to welcome” Perkovic to the mutual bank’s board.

“Marianne’s extensive financial services experience within large, complex banking organisations combined with her strong customer focus, will be invaluable as we work to achieve Teachers Mutual Bank Limited’s long-term strategic objectives.”

◼️ The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Steve Johnston, currently Suncorp Chief Executive and Managing Director, as Chair of the ICA Board.

Johnston joined the ICA Board as a Director in August 2021.

He will succeed Nick Hawkins, IAG Managing Director and CEO, as ICA Board chair at the beginning of 2025. Hawkins has served as President of the ICA Board for the past two years.

The Board opted to rename its head from ‘President’ to ‘Chair’ at its most recent meeting “in line with contemporary practice” it said.

Hawkins thanked the ICA Board for their support over his tenure.

“Over the past two years, the insurance industry and its customers have faced many challenges, including Australia’s costliest floods. Over this time, the industry has worked hard to adapt and improve, to ensure our customers communities across Australia remain resilient and have the support they need,” he said.

Johnston, who expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Chair/President, said he would continue to work with the board “to build strong partnerships with governments, communities, and regulators to address the protection gap and ensure the strength and sustainability of our sector for the benefit of our customers and the community”.

Johnston will begin his term as ICA Chair on 1 January 2025.
