Following Westpac NZ and BNZ’s global announcements of ground-breaking innovations at FST Media conferences earlier this year, both initiatives were finally launched this week.

Westpac New Zealand’s Augmented Reality application went live for iPhone users, and BNZ officially launched ‘BNZ Community‘.

Westpac New Zealand’s Chief Digital Officer Simon Pomeroy announced the launch of Augmented Reality at FST Media’s Technology and Innovation – The Future of Customer Experience and Business Intelligence. The application will give Westpac New Zealand customers the ability to use 3D imagery to check their balances, see their transactions and spend locations and organise their spending and budget, as well as various other payment features.

The application was developed as part of the bank’s crowd-sourcing initiative, ‘The Westpac Global App Challenge – UK’ by a rocket scientist.

Meanwhile, ‘BNZ Digital Community’, first announced at the Technology and Innovation – The Future of Banking & Financial Services conference in New Zealand in September, will provide an online hub for the bank’s customers to access advice on money matters from peers, with BNZ’s Head of Digital, Stephen Bowe saying the bank was aiming to move the conversation from banking to money management.
