More than 100,000 users at dispersed locations will gain access to dedicated IT support services, including domestic and international military exercises.

The Australian Department of Defence is streamlining its IT support services for more than 100,000 users under an extended two-year contract with the solutions provider, Unisys.

This service will be available across 450 defence locations, and covers all divisions of the department, including joint services and international military exercises.

Support is available for defence’s Talisman Sabre  exercises and other operations. This support also incorporates nationwide emergency disaster responses, including floods and bushfires.

Defence seeks to build IT support services around a flexible workforce model. This taps into man-hour capability, and being able to prioritise services, as and where needed.

Under its streamlined services, defence aims to maintain a more flexible pricing structure, manage workforce planning, and support a transparent reporting regime.

In other news, Unisys has clinched an extended IT helpdesk contract with the NSW government. This contract boosts support for up to 6,000 public servants.A dedicated centre is being managed in Rhodes, offering more scalable, adaptive and efficient IT services.

The NSW administration wants to streamline its IT helpdesk services for staff. Last year, it signed a six-year contract with Unisys to manage its IT helpdesk services. This contract replaces a state-owned ServiceFirst legacy IT platform with a high-performance consumption based model.

The administration is targeting $13.4 million in savings in the first 6 years of the Unisys contract. The migration is underway and will drive “further efficiencies in the delivery of back-office and IT services to state agencies,” say officials.
