Movers and Shakers:  FST Media’s monthly wrap of the latest announcements and personnel changes in financial services across Australia, New Zealand and wider Asia.

Australia and New Zealand

March marks a number of high-profile appointments and announcements for financial services company AMP and Australian sovereign wealth fund, The Future Fund.

Adam Tindall has been unveiled as AMP Capital’s Director and Chief Investment Officer of Property, replacing the outgoing Andrew Bird. Tindall has 28 years’ experience in property including five years at AMP Capital. Vicki Doyle has also been appointed as Director of Corporate Superannuation, reporting to AMP Group Executive of Advice and Banking, Rob Caprioli.

In addition, Mark McClatchey has been promoted to Head of Multi-Strategy Research at AMP Capital, in a move that sees Lachlan Davis become the sole Head of Multi-Strategy Funds. Within the Multi-Strategy team, analyst Matthew Salmon has been promoted to the role of Portfolio Manager, with Rob Pinnuck and Reuben De Barros poised to become the Deputy Heads of Multi-Strategy at AMP Capital.

Wendy Norris has been announced as the Head of Infrastructure and Timberland at The Future Fund. Joining Norris is Tanya Branwhite, Macquarie Bank’s former head of Australian Macro Research, who has been appointed to Future Fund’s Equities Team. Branwhite will report to acting Head of Equities, Sarah Carne.

Peter Harmer, formerly the Chief Executive of Commercial Insurance at CGU, has been appointed to the role of Chief Digital Officer for IAG.

Rob Woods has been announced as Chief Executive, Group Strategy at Challenger, with former CBA institutional head Ian Saines unveiled as Challenger’s new Chief Executive, Funds Management.

Andrew Mair has been announced as Suncorp Life’s Executive General Manager of Distribution replacing Jordan Hawke who resigned at the end of January.

Matthew Drennan has been appointed as IOOF’s Group Head of Research and Portfolio Construction, following IOOF’s takeover of SFG Australia in August last year.

George Lytas has been ushered into the newly-created position of Head of Annuities for CommInsure’s Superannuation and Investment Business. Lytas was previously the acting Head of General Insurance for BT Financial Group.

Joseph Ferragina has been appointed to Treasury Group’s board as Finance Director and has also been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer of the Group. Ferragina has been with Treasury Group for nine years and has more than 25 years of accounting and funds management experience.

Bobby Lehane has been announced as Chief Executive Officer of strata insurance specialist CHU Underwriting Agencies. Lehane has spent the last seven years at Zurich Financial Services Australia, with the past two as executive general manager initially of the SME segment and the commercial insurance segment.

Paul Moss has been unveiled as General Manager of Technology and Operations at MyState Limited, and will commence his new role in May.

Asia

This month also sees three key appointments at CIMB Group, Malaysia’s second largest financial services provider, in a move that is hoped to imbue a sense of fresh leadership to the senior organisational structure of the group. The ASEAN Universal bank is in the midst of a revamp as its focus switches from loan growth to cutting equities operating costs in Asia Pacific by 30 per cent this year.

Effendy Shahul Hamid has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Group Asset Management and Investments at CIMB. Meanwhile, Tigor M. Siahaan will succeed Arwin Rasyid as President Director of CIMB Niaga. Rasyid has expressed his intention to step down and Tigor, who is currently the Chief Country Officer of Citi Indonesia, will step up to the reins following a career of 20 years working with Citi in Indonesia and New York.

In addition, Kwan Keen Yew has been appointed Group Chief Compliance Officer at CIMB. Kwan, who has over 15 years of legal and compliance experience, was most recently Head of Legal and Compliance at Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia.

Sylvain Magne has been promoted to Head of Equity-Linked Asia Pacific and Deputy Head of Equity Capital Markets for North Asia at BNP Paribas.

Marshall Nicholson has been ushered in as Nomura’s Head of Equity Capital Markets in Asia (excluding Japan) after having left China International Capital Corp last year.

Catherine Cai has been announced as Citigroup’s Head of China Investment Banking. Cai’s appointment sees her replace Roger Zhu to become Managing Director and Chairman. She will report to Mark Slaughter, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking for Citi in Asia Pacific.

Michael Gorriz has been appointed as Group Chief Information Officer for Standard Chartered Bank. Based in Singapore, Gorriz will replace Jan Verplancke and will be reporting directly to the bank’s Group Chief Executive, Bill Winters.

David Qu has been announced as China Rates Strategist for ANZ, a new role developed by the bank as it expands its regional research capabilities. Qu will be based in Shanghai and report to ANZ’s Singapore-based Global Head of Rates Research, Danny Suwanapruti.

Nicholas Koh has been appointed as Senior Portfolio Manager of AMP Capital’s multi-strategy team, based in Hong Kong. Koh previously worked at AMP Capital from 2001 to 2006, managing Australian equities in the multi-strategy team for a substantial part of that time.
