Movers & Shakers

May saw a number of high-profile appointments and departures across the financial services industry, with noteworthy additions to the Insurance Council of Australia, the ASX and Qudos Bank.

Appointments

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has appointed Andrew Hall to the position of Chief Executive and Executive Director, replacing Rob Whelan who earlier this year announced his resignation from the role. Hall previously served as CBA’s EGM for Corporate Affairs. He will commence his new role with the ICA in early September.

The ASX has appointed Janine Ryan to the position of Chief Compliance Officer. Ryan replaces Kevin Lewis, who announced he will step into another role at the ASX in preparation for his retirement in 2022. Ryan also assumes Lewis’ seat on the ASX’s Corporate Governance Council.

Qudos Bank has appointed Michael Anastasi to the position of Chief Executive. Anastasi had served as Chief Financial Officer since 2007 and then Acting Chief Executive following the departure of Scott King 12 months ago.

Westpac has appointed Curt Zuber, Group Treasurer, as acting Chief Executive for Westpac’s Institutional Bank from 1 July, following the retirement of Lyn CobleyJoanne Dawson, Chief Financial Officer, Westpac Institutional Bank & Treasury, will step in as Group Treasurer for Zuber until a replacement is found for Cobley.

HESTA, an industry superannuation fund, has appointed Katrina Waghorne to the position of General Manager Digital, with Callum Tod also appointed General Manager Brand and Acquisition.

Frontier Advisors has appointed David Jenkins to the position of Head of Technology and Operations.

WealthO2, a wealth fintech, has appointed Matthew Done to the position of Chief Technology Officer.

Departures

Westpac has announced the big-name departures of Craig Bright, Chief Information Officer, and David Lindberg, Chief Executive, Consumer Banking, with both accepting new roles overseas. Westpac has commenced a global search to find their replacements.

Suncorp has announced the departure of Lee Hatton, Chief Executive for its Banking & Wealth division, just three months into the role, with Hatton citing the challenges of the commute between her home base in Sydney and Suncorp’s HQ in Brisbane. She will take on a new role at Australian buy now, pay later outfit Afterpay.

Westpac has announced the retirement of Lyn Cobley, Chief Executive of Westpac’s Institutional Bank. Cobley served three decades in the banking sector. Westpac is undertaking an “international search” to find Cobley’s replacement.

Jennifer McSpadden has announced she will depart from her role as General Manager for Engagement at Media Super.

Board

Police & Nurses Limited (P&N) Bank has announced Stephen Targett as Chair-elect following the announcement of current chair Paul Gabb’s retirement. Targett’s term will be effective upon Gabb’s retirement at the company’s annual general meeting on 18 November 2020.

ME Bank has announced Elana Rubin will depart from her role as a Non-Executive Director of ME Bank. Rubin has joined Afterpay as Chair.

Rabobank Australia has announced the appointment of James Fazzino to its board, filling a position vacated by retiring director Andy Borland, who will take on the role of Chair at Rabobank New Zealand.
