Stephen Wong has been promoted to the role of Chairman of Investment Banking in Hong Kong at Goldman Sachs. Since 2011, Wong was in charge of coverage for Hong Kong investment banking clients. His new role sees him working closely with Kate Richdale, Head of Investment Banking Services for Asia, and Ning Hong, Chairman of Investment Banking for Greater China.
Christopher Marquis has been appointed as the Global Head of Private Wealth Solutions for HSBC. He will remain in Hong Kong and continue to report to Bernard Rennell, Regional Head of Global Private Banking in Asia.
Alison May Chan has been promoted to Managing Director of Standard Chartered Ultra High Net Worth Solutions for private banking clients in Greater China.
Peng Wensheng has joined Citic Securities as Global Chief Economist and Head of Research. Liang Hong will take over from Peng as Chief Economist at CICC.
Gonzalo Luchetti has been named Regional Retail Bank Head for Citi’s Consumer Bank in Asia, continuing to oversee his current remit as Citi’s Global Head of Wealth Management and Insurance for the Consumer Bank.
Chris Laskowski has been announced as Citi’s Hong Kong Head of Corporate and Investment Banking for the interim, as Citi seeks a replacement for Roger Zhu who retired earlier this month.
Gaurav Mital has replaced Noah Ward as COO for Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong, with Ward leaving to become Chief Administrative Officer for Deutsche Bank in the UK.
January marks a series of high-profile departures for Deutsche Bank as the firm’s Asian business has seen a decline in investment-banking revenues.
Lisa Friis, COO of Investment Banking Coverage and Advisory for Asia at Deutsche Bank, has resigned. Friis’s departure marks a significant turning point for Deutsche Bank after a career spanning 16 years of investment banking projects for Deutsche Bank in London, Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Robert Rankin, Co-head of Corporate Banking and Securities at Deutsche Bank, has also stepped down from his role to become Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Press Holdings.
Anita Fung, CEO of HSBC Hong Kong, has announced that she is leaving the bank after a career spanning 18 years. Fung was formerly the Head of Global Banking and Markets for Asia Pacific since 2010 and Treasurer and Head of Global Markets in Asia Pacific since 2005.
Jan Verplancke, CIO and Group Head of Technology at Standard Chartered in Singapore has announced he will be retiring, having worked at Standard Chartered since 2004. He is joined by the departure of Chief Risk Officer, Richard Goulding, who is stepping down after 8 years at the bank.
Eugene Qian, President of Citibank in China, will be stepping down this month, having joined Citigroup from Deutsche Bank in 2007.
Finally, Henry Cai, Deutsche Bank’s Executive Chairman of Corporate Finance for Asia-Pacific, has announced he is stepping down next month after four years in charge of the firm’s investment banking operations in China.
