Ernst Bürger was appointed Deputy Director General for Administrative Modernization and Administrative Organization at the Federal Ministry of the Interior on 1 December 2016. After studying law and working as a legal practitioner and tutor in Münster, he entered the Federal Ministry of the Interior in 1998 where he was involved in the drafting of the Immigration Act. From 2001 – 2005 he was head of office of the State Secretaries Zypries and Dr. Wewer, then head of division in charge of “Information Society and E-Government” in the IT strategy staff. As from 2008 Ernst Bürger was responsible for the labour law and collective agreement division and in this capacity represented the Federal Government’s interests in numerous collective wage negotiations. He also is an honorary judge at the Federal Labour Court.
