Gary is the first Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Curtin University and is charged with building a securely enabled digital experience that drives innovation, learning, collaboration and engagement. Gary was previously the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director for SC8 Limited (now Sapien Cyber), providing cyber security ‘actionable intelligence’ solutions for defending critical infrastructure.
Prior to this Gary was Cisco’s strategic cyber security advisor for the Asia-Pacific & Japan region and for 12+ years led the development of Cisco’s new markets in cyber security, digital media,
satellite and space systems, and emergency communications. Before Cisco, Gary completed four years leading business development for a large defence consulting company and prior to this spent 20 years with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) where he led high-value capability development programs in space and defence systems.
Gary has completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng.) in Communications at Curtin University, and a Master of Science (MSc) specialising in Operations Research and Space Operations at the US Air Force Institute of Technology (USAFIT). He is married and has two children and resides in Perth, Australia.
